This results in an incredibly high definition and weather resistant finish which will endure all weathers for years to come.

Please note, this is a hand cut piece of slate with natural flaws and irregularities. Due to the process of chipping the edges, the slate may be slightly irregular in shape and have incomplete corners. We love working with this natural material to produce a product that is completely unique and individual

-- Great on door, mailbox , stone, brick or wood. You can have holes drilled in the slate for mounting or hanging. (Template in photos). Hardware is included for all options. Consult home improvement store for installation on your particular surface.

••THE HISTORY OF SLATE••

Slate is a very durable, fine grained, metamorphic rock formed in the earth over 400 millions ago. It has a very low absorption rate of water, which makes it perfect for outdoor conditions. Slate has two lines of breakability – cleavage and grain – which make it possible to split the stone into thin sheets. When broken, slate retains its natural appearance while remaining incredibly strong and durable. It is for these reasons that it has been so widely used in roofing, flooring, billiard tables and blackboards..

Slate is very user friendly giving you the durability and look of thick stone without being too bulky and heavy making it easy to hang or mount.

Sassy Squirrel Ink started with the exchanging of gifts. For Christmas 2015, I gave my husband Simon a personalized wallet made by my cousin, who has a very successful Etsy shop. Simon bought me a beautiful slate with a photo of us in St Mark’s Square, Venice on the day we got engaged,.

The quality of the slate was amazing. With some encouragement from my cousin, we started researching how to make our own slates. Fast forward three months and we had decided on the name (I just love squirrels!). We then bought equipment and learned how to navigate our way through photoshop! Just like that, our first designs were ready for the marketplace! We now have over 90 designs, covering a whole range of products, from standard house numbers to house plaque gift ideas. We even offer a range of beautiful wedding gifts, all made from slate.
